Brasilia, the capital created on the drawing board
In the 50s and 60s Brasilia, the futuristic capital city of Brazil was built in the dry plains of Central Brazil 600 kilometers away from the nearest coast. To create a new capital in 1846 and received legislative reality in 1946.In 1956 under Brazilians President Kubitchek constructions started building the city scape, and in a short time with the help of thousands of workers of the superquadras, that divide the city into living, working and entertainment sectors.
Brasilia’s creators, Oscar Niemeyer and urban planner Lucio Costa created a vast piece of contemporary art and a utopian model of an egalitarian modern city.
The pictures are part of my ongoing story about planned cities in the world.
